Using two strands of red yarn, e-wrap two complete rows around the entire loom, secure around outside peg. Slide the bottom row over the top row (knitting). Continue wrapping and knitting for 10 more rows.
| |
Take the first row through the inside of the loom and hook on peg, making a brim. Again, take the bottom row over the top of the peg. Stitch 4 more rows.
| |
Cut yarn and tie on the white yarn. Wrap and knit 10 more rows. Continue (alternating colors) until you have length you want before heel.
| |
Start Heel: Change colors and wrap 18 pegs; secure yarn and knit the bottom row over the top. Wrap back to peg 1 and knit over.
| |
Start to Decrease: Take the yarn loop from peg 1 and peg 2. Pull the loop from peg 2 through loop 1 and place back on the same peg. Knit to the end of the row.
| |
Take the yarn loop from peg 17 and 18. Pull the loop from peg 17 through loop 18 and place back on the same peg. Knit to end of the row.
| |
Continue decreasing until you have four empty pegs on each side. With the remaining pegs, knit five rows.
| |
Start to Increase: Every time you knit to the end of a row, add a stitch on the next empty peg. Do this until the pegs are all filled.
| |
Change back to alternate color and knit the circle back together again continuing for 10 rows. Change colors and continue 10 rows. Change to red to end toe with red, same as the top of the stocking.
| |
Finishing: Thread yarn needle with about 10-inches of red. Run the needle and yarn through the loop on the first peg, picking up all pegs until the last peg. Pull the yarn together, close the end of the stocking and secure.
| |
Stitch up the two sides of the heel and weave in the loose ends of the yarn.
| |
Felting Instructions: Set washing machine on hot wash, with lowest level of water. When full, place stocking in (along with old bath towel) and agitate for 6 minutes. Do not let the washer start into rinse cycle. Check size and condition of stocking – if it acceptable, let spin dry. You may need to shape somewhat during this process. If you would like a tighter/smaller stocking, agitate another 6 minutes. Continue this process until you get the desired weave and size.
| |
Remove from washer and shape stocking for drying. You may want to place the stocking over a round object (soda bottle or can) for the drying process, which may take up to 24 hrs.
