Class Description

The planes of the face are the elevational curves and shifts that make up the three-dimensions of the face and head. Understanding the contour lines of these planes is essential to rendering realistic facial features. Likewise, the shapes of the light and shadows or value shapes are equally important to drawing realistic forms and capturing likeness in any person's facial features. In this class, we will map out the planes of the face surrounding a nose and draw that nose using primarily the contours of these planes. Then, we will draw a nose looking only at the value. Last, we will combine these two techniques. This class uses chalk pastel pencils on charcoal paper and instructor-provided reference photographs of noses.
