Ceramic Christmas Tree - Made using a Vintage Mold
At shows, I often hear about the ceramic Christmas tree one's Grandmother/Aunt/Mother/etc. had when they were a kid. Sometimes there is a long pause in speech as the memory of Christmas comes back to them at the sight of this ceramic Christmas tree. This tree comes with the light kit, necessary bulbs and a few extra. When it arrives, you will just assemble the light into the base and plug it in, organizing the bulbs as you desire as they are not glued in. Additional bulb options are available at Micheals.com. The tree is slipcasted using a vintage mold, but was poured, glazed and fired in the kiln in 2023. Slip casting is a ceramics technique using a liquid clay, aka clay slip. This slip is poured into a plaster mold. The plaster mold absorbs some of the water in the clay. The job of the potter is to get the chemistry of the slip correct and judge the thickness of the walls of the pottery. Once satisfied, the slip that is not stuck to the sides of the mold is poured out. The piece is then removed from the mold and after it is dry enough to handle, the remaining steps are completed. It is trimmed, fired in the kiln the first time, glazed and fired in the kiln a second time. Once the kiln cools, the finished piece is removed so plastic bulbs can be inserted and the base with light attached. It is a rather long process, prone to missteps, but well worth the outcome. This process has a lead time of 4 - 6 weeks, but this tree is available to ship today.
