Gemma Ornata

Hello Friends, Welcome to Gemma Ornata! What exactly does Gemma Ornata mean? Gemma Ornata in Latin translates to "adorned with jewels". Quite fitting for a jewelry shop I figured :). For most of my life I've had a passion for the Roman world and even aspired to be an archaeologist as a child. It is profoundly amazing to me how our lives today are still impacted by the foundations they laid for humanity. In May of 2023 I was able to realize a lifelong dream of mine just in time for my 40th birthday and spent just over two weeks in Italy. Beauty was everywhere - from the landscape to the ancient monuments, from the sculptures and frescoes to the mosaic floors and majolica tile of Sorrento. Even the smallest details were captivating. The experience was truly the best of my life and will stay with me forever. Since returning to my normal life in Alabama, I've continued to feel drawn to the place, the people and the culture. To the history that ties us all together in one way or another. Until I can visit again, I've found myself looking for ways to feel connected to it, thousands of miles and thousands of years removed. And thus Gemma Ornata was born.
