Very disappointed. Very poor quality. Especially for the price!!! Item came damaged!!!

Got this today. The bottom piece that holds the canvas was wobbly, I fixed that by tightening screws. The arms that hold the painting both travel quite a bit laterally, no fixing that. The latch that holds the easel against the box does not work… not sure if the two pieces of the latch are just too close together, or if it is because the hook piece is not curved upward at all and sits at about 90 degrees. The thumb screws that hold the painting at an angle don’t really tighten enough to prevent movement if you push with any sort of force. The stain is blotchy and uneven. There are probably other things I’m forgetting to mention as well. I will most likely be returning this. The only thing I like about it is that I can sit the box part on the edge of a table and have the painting held at a height much lower than a standard table top easel because the easel extends below the table top.

Really poor quality. I bought it on sale but im sorry I bought it at all. As soon as I took it out of the box the whole front part detached from the rest of the easel. I had to use wood glue to make it usable. Even then, it was really hard to turn the screws so the easel wouldn’t push back. Wood looked really cheap. I liked the design but it is just extremely poorly constructed.

I've had this for over a month now and have used it for four painting sessions. It seems very sturdy thus far, with no wobble once the nuts are tightened. The only minor issue I had was that the bottom arm chipped the edge of the top board, but it doesn't seem to have affected the structure or use of the easel at all. The drawer is convenient for storing clean brushes, and it is nice and compact once everything is folded up.

I was preparing to call to ask a question about my order.  As I was about to dial, two items were delivered in one box.  A neighbor happened to see the delivery and carried it in the house for me. 
 The rep asked if the shipment was OK.  I had not opened it, but he had me do it.  I found two apparently minor places that seemed to be a manufacturing defect.  He said he could arrange for a replacement now.  I said that it seemed to be minor and would ask a neighbor what he thought.  The next morning the neighbor came and I asked his opinion.  He said since it was new, even though the damage may be minor, he suggested that I call for a replacement.

I can honestly say that only two other companies which I have dealt with for many years were as great as Michael's was when I explained the issue.  The rep checked my call yesterday and immediately put in the request.

The easel itself is a beautiful dark brown.  The only thing is I have neuropathy in one part of my hand and arthritis that affect my joints.  The larger latch no problem, pretty easy to open.  The smaller latch is designed a bit differently and a little bit harder for me to open.  I have figured a way to open the smaller one and with a little practice I doubt it will not be an issue.  Can't hardy wait until the replacement arrives.  I have done paint by numbers off and on for 60 years or so, but never on canvas before.  One friend of nearly 50 years has decided to try it.  I told her about Michael's and how great they were with the replacement of this item, she now plans to get one.  My neighbor wants one for his lady friend.

The one for $78.00 was on sale for $49.00 so I purchased it at the store- the larger size.
They are just what I was looking for so cancel the order.

This easel needs no assembly and is ready to go right out of the box. The drawer is nice and has plenty of room for brushes, etc.

This is an extremely poorly constructed product and not worth the money. The latches on the item are misaligned and do not lay straight. This causes the locking mechanism to remain loose after closing and 'pop' out of place. The item feels durable but the poor manufacturing prevents it from securing properly and causes questionable integrity allowing the item to be a 'portable' easel and carrying case. I will be returning and am extremely disappointed in the purchase.

Maybe if companies stopped outsourcing from China, the U.S. could sell halfway decent products.

I am really disappointed in this easel. As far as sturdy and well built  it is and the added drawer is neat. BUT when we put the screw in the bottom screw hole it wouldn't work right. The hole was stripped or the screw was stripped. A year later and the wing nut won't adjust. So the easel flops down.  Maybe I just got a dud.
