Instructions

Step 1:

Project Note:
  • This recipe is slightly stickier than other recipes because it is kid friendly
  • Only the Elmer's® Glue – Clear will work with this recipe
  • Be careful when children are crafting with sequins, as the product does have a choke hazard warning on the label.
  • Protect your work surface with wax paper (or palette paper) and wear an apron (or other protective garment) to protect clothing, as the paint may stain.

Pour 5 oz. of the clear glue into a mixing bowl. If desired, add a very small amount of acrylic craft paint and stir it in with a craft stick.

TIP: Squeeze a drop of paint onto your finger, then drag your finger along the surface of the glue to transfer just a tiny amount at a time.

Step 2:

Measure out ¼ cup of baking soda and pour it into a second mixing bowl.

ADULT: Add 2 cups of warm water, stirring with a craft stick until the baking soda is completely dissolved.

Step 3:

Pour the warm baking soda solution, a little at a time, into the glue mixture in the first bowl. With a craft stick, stir the two together. Continue to add the baking soda solution, and mix until the slime comes together and separates from the clear-ish liquid around it.

Step 4:

Remove the slime from the water one handful at a time. At first, it will be very wet and drippy. Work the slime back and forth in your hands for about five minutes to dry the slime and give it a firmer consistency. Repeat until you have removed all the slime from the bowl of liquid, which you can discard.

TIP: The more you squeeze and play with the slime, the more solid it will become.

Step 5:

Flatten out the slime on a wax paper (or palette paper) and sprinkle on sequins. Fold the slime's edges in toward the center to blend the sequins into the slime. Continue until they’re evenly distributed throughout the slime.

TIP: There are a variety of glitter, sequin, craft paint, figurines, etcetera available both in the store and online (shop here). Try this slime experiment again with other colors of craft paint, glitter and sequins. Store your slime in a sealed container or re-sealable plastic bag.
